Thanksgiving

Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day, I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on some things over the last year that I’m most thankful for.

I am thankful my health. Without my health I would not be able to do all that I do.

I am thankful my family.  Together this year we have shared trials, tribulations and triumphs.

I am thankful that magic ingredient! It’s belief. I know that any obstacle I have encountered was just a mirage that would dissipate when I actually reached it.

I am thankful for being creative.  I have been able to create many great ideas this year.

I am thankful for participating in National Novel Writing Month, 58299 words written in ten days.

I am thankful for our neighbors.  Without their kindness we would not have had anything to eat this week, or a turkey for thanksgiving.

I am thankful for all my readers, my business clients, and my associates.  May your thanksgiving be as blessed as ours.

Being responsible sometimes means pissing people off.

Good leadership involves responsibility to the welfare of the group, which means that some people will get angry at your actions and decisions. It’s inevitable, if you’re honorable. Trying to get everyone to like you is a sign of mediocrity: you’ll avoid the tough decisions, you’ll avoid confronting the people who need to be confronted, and you’ll avoid offering differential rewards based on differential performance because some people might get upset.

Ironically, by procrastinating on the difficult choices, by trying not to get anyone mad, and by treating everyone equally “nicely” regardless of their contributions, you’ll simply ensure that the only people you’ll wind up angering are the most creative and productive people in the organization.
